The moderately steep slopes of Brsečka Grabrova are distinguished by a continuous interchange of small valleys and hills, of which several flat plateaus stand out in the higher and central part of the area. On one of the flat plateaus, there is Kalac Pond, which is also the main focal point of the area. Next to the pond, the densest patchwork of arable fields and pastures can be found, with visible ruins of dvori (dry stone shepherds’ dwellings). The pastures and fields have gradually become overgrown with successional vegetation and forests, while only small parts of the highlands are covered with dry grasslands and meadows.

Did you know?
The agricultural landscape around Kalac Pond is entirely the result of human intervention over a long period. By erecting numerous dry stone walls and terraces, people were able to collect and retain quality soil for growing crops. In the same way, by building an embankment on the southeast side of the sinkhole, it was possible to retain water and form a pond.
