The Prodol Mountain Pass is the lowest part of the Učka mountain ridge, located ‘only’ 568 metres above sea level. The relief characteristics determined the broader historical significance of this area, which partly influenced its landscape diversity. Although traces of the agricultural landscape can be found throughout the area, its most dominant feature is the forests that cover it almost entirely. The prevailing forest cover is basically divided into two parts: a smaller southern part dominated by allochthonous conifers and a larger central and northern part dominated by indigenous forest stands.

Did you know?
In Antiquity, the Via Flavia Roman road connecting Pula and Tarsatica (today’s Trsat) passed through Prodol, which is the lowest mountain pass in the Učka massif between Istria and the coast. Nearby, there is a historical border stone that once marked the border between feudal estates and today between the cadastral municipalities of Brseč, Mošćenice and Kožljak.
