The Rovozna Valley is an oval-shaped depression stretching in the direction of the Učka massif. The peripheral parts of the area are distinguished by rocky elevations that descend towards the flatter central part where Rovozna Pond is located – the largest of its kind in the area and the most important feature. The pond is an extremely important point in the annual migration of birds. For this reason, there is an ornithological centre nearby, in which migratory birds are ringed seasonally. In the immediate vicinity of the pond, there are several open hay meadows, while the rest of the area is mostly occupied by mixed type forests.

Rovozna Pond is an anthropogenic formation – it was created by people who built an embankment supported by a dry stone wall to prevent rainwater from running off and to retain the water.
