The rural landscape of Kalac – Grabrova is distinguished by a significant amount of forest and numerous small traditional hamlets scattered throughout the area. Their location was determined by the presence of arable land, the amount of which directly influenced the size of the hamlet. Today, agricultural areas open up as airy pockets of meadow or terraced valleys within dense forest stands, while in the past the situation was the opposite, with agricultural land occupying a significantly larger area. Another distinctive feature of the area is the numerous traditional paths that connected the hamlets with Mošćenice.

The people of the small town of Mošćenice depended on its hinterland, which included hamlets, agricultural areas and mountain pastures. The network of historical paths and steps represented the ‘circulatory system’ by which people, goods and information travelled through the area of Mošćenice.
